Things to Do

There's always something to do in the Lake District and most are a stones throw from Castle Green Hotel .

Kendal - the Auld Grey Town

Kendal is steeped in history being the traditional 'Gateway to the Lakes'.

The Castle which the hotel overlooks was the ancestral home of Katherine Parr, sixth wife of Henry VIII.  Now a ruin it provides a fantastic vantage point across the town and Lakeland Fells.

Kendal has, at various times, been an important centre for trade and commerce.  It's traditional trade was wool reflected in the town's motto - Pannus mihi Panis - wool is my bread.

There is also a strong link with the footwear industry Kendal being the home of the K Shoes brand before it merged with Clarks.  The largest factory site now accommodates the new K Village shopping outlet due to open in 2010.

Kendal is a thriving market town (Wednesdays & Saturdays) with many museums, two shopping centres, and a fantastic arts centre and cinema with The Brewery.

We host three major festivals throughout the year - Mintfest, a festival of street arts in August, Torchlight Carnival in September and Mountain Festival in November.

So there is plenty to see and do if you don't fancy stretching yourself too much, or straying too far from the hotel bar!
