Silly Season
By Tim Rumney, 10 December 2009 –
What is sillier?
Long working days followed by a busy social calendar?
Hosting and serving 4500 party guests over 20 events in 14 days?
Finalising several refurbishment projects just before Christmas?
Welcome to The Castle Green in December.
To avoid any Scrooge-like tendencies in these recessionary times we have worked really hard this year to fill our Party Nights, and it has paid off with bookings up 12% on last year. So far so great and we have had fantastic feedback which we have posted on the website.
The first two months of the new year are traditionally when we carry out our refurbishment projects because business levels are lower than the rest of the year. We are currently organising the fabrics, floor finishes and carpets for our upgrade of Alexanders Pub and 42 bedrooms which will take place in January and February 2010. We have to place the orders now because in these stringent times companies do not hold the stock that they used to.
So far this week I have had a benchmarking Pub visit with our Pub Manager, Les and Deputy GM, John (so we had to try a good selection of the real ales), my wife’s company’s Christmas Party (Sam, have you recovered yet) and tonight my children’s Christmas Show (hurrah no alcohol).
Have a great Christmas.
