To truly connect with the enviroment it's best to leave the car behind. Not only will this save you the car parking charges but allow you to see a completely different Lake District.

Cycle Hire
Bikes can be hired from Wheelbase at Staveley (4 miles from Castle Green). If you have a family then they offer Trek GoBug cycle trailers for hire, along with a cycle ‘tag-a-long’ trailer, child seat and 24 inch and 20 inch bikes. You can even book online at www.wheelbase.co.uk.
Alternatively, if you bring your own cycles we can store them securely for you - please advise on making your reservation that you require this facility.
Bus Routes
The main bus route from Kendal into the Lakes is the 555 Lakesline. This operates from Lancaster (20 miles south of Kendal) up to Carlisle (Cumbria's Capital 50 miles north). This route takes in all the main towns and villages in the Lake District - Windermere, Ambleside, Grasmere, Keswick - so you can hop on and off as you please!
For best value buy a Day Explorer Ticket for the full day £9.75 adult, £6.50 child, £5.90 senior.
