Autumn is a magical time of year. The days get cooler, the streets get quieter, and the Lake District transforms from greens and blues, to a flurry of reds, oranges, and yellows. It’s a beautiful sight witnessing the fells change with the seasons. And in the Lake District, we’re no strangers to celebrating the seasons alongside our culture.
Ya Mek Me Laff, Keswick - Sun 6th October
The Lakeland Dialect Society is hosting a show in Keswick’s Theatre by the Lake. They’re taking to the stage to share stories, tales, and sketches that showcase local authors and the unique dialect of the Lakes. Celebrating all our area has to offer, this society is dedicated to preserving and promoting the ancient Lakeland dialect through special events and celebrations. It’s truly a must see for those fascinated by language, or those looking for a laugh. Plus, the views around the theatre are a must-see for Lake goers.
The Winter Droving, Penrith - Sat 26th October
The Winter Droving is hailed as perhaps one of the most iconic cultural events in the Lake District. Created by Eden Arts, the event is set to boast the largest market in Cumbria, live music across 5 stages, street performers around every corner, and a fancy dress dog competition. Pop on a mask and traditional farmers clothing before following the magical fire and lantern procession through town towards the main stage. Thousands of people will be in attendance, watching as the headline act closes out the weekend.
