What's Happening this November?

Back in the 1800s, our landscape and the literature it inspired put the Lake District on the map. Today, we’re always celebrating our legacy and presenting the work of artists near and far. From classics to reimaginings, there’s no limit to what we celebrate. This November our area is showcasing insights into author’s lives, highlighting new local work, and comedically redefining classic literature. Here’s what’s happening this November in Kendal.

The Monster & Mary Shelley - November 9th

Mary Shelley is hailed as a literary marvel, a woman on 18 who laid the groundwork for gothic literature. Presented at the Brewery Arts House, this show incorporates melodrama, music, horror, and teenage agony as it explored how her greatest masterpiece, Frankenstien, haunted her.

The show begins at 7.30pm and guests are asked to pay what they can. Save time and help the environment by booking online to receive an e-ticket.

Kendal Mountain Literature Festival - November 15th - 17th

An interwoven weekend bringing wordsmiths, artists, and adventurers together in one place, Kendal Mountain Literature Festival is an essential piece of lakes culture. Events will aim to highlight the landscapes significance in Lakeland literature and transport us to different corners of the planet through photography, poetry, autobiographies, and illustration.

The Romanticism movement put the Lake District on the map and brought writers from across the world to our home where they scrambled ghylls, climbed mountains, and meandered through valleys in search of inspiration. As the first port of call for many literary travellers, Kendal is the home of exploration, poetic and physical.
