Hold Your Horses: Gearing Up for the Cartmel Races

The season is about to kick off again. Located in the pretty country village of Cartmel with the stunning Lake District as its backdrop, its no surprise that so many flock to the original 'steeplechase' racecourse every year. It provides the perfect setting for a fantastic day out for all, and just half an hour from us by car, there's every reason for a day at the races!

If it's an excuse to get dressed up with the girls that you're seeking, grab your handbags and head to the inaugural Ladies Night this May. That's not to say that gentlemen shouldn't scrub up too - this will be the only evening racing this year, and for the best dressed, there will a prize giveaways worth more than £1000, so make sure you make the effort.

While mum and dad can enjoy beer tents and champagne bars, the funfair and free entry for children makes racedays in Cartmel a great family friendly option. There are plenty of food stalls (including a new pop-up kitchen by rising star chef Tom Barnes) but picnics and barbecues are also welcome, as are dogs, so nobody has to be left behind.

Following the success of previous live concerts at Cartmel, Cliff Richard is set to wow the crowds this June, marking the 60th anniversary of his first single release. This is sure to be one of the more memorable meetings this year, but all of the upcoming racedays promise to be fun-filled.

The lovely shops and pubs of Cartmel village itself and the beautiful Lakeland fells surrounding it will be brimming with atmosphere this time of year. So, if you're looking for something memorable to do while you stay with us at Castle Green this summer, why not soak up some magic and make a day of it.
