OUR PERFECT PICNIC SPOTS THIS SUMMER

Nothing says summer like sitting on the grass and snacking in the sunshine! While we might be bias, the choice of nearby picnic spots are particularly special at the gateway to the Lakes.

Best for the Family
Winding through Kendal town is the lovely river Kent, and there are plenty of adjacent green areas to head to with the blanket. Abbot Hall Park is a great place to spend the afternoon. Right next to the Gallery and Museum, it also has a childrens play area and a bowling green to keep everyone entertained.

Best for Woodland Wanderers
If you feel like stretching your legs a little, head up to Serpentine Woods and follow the Alphabet Trail along winding limestone woodland paths. There are a number of wooden sculptures to enjoy your sandwiches beside, and great views back over town.

Best for Active Types
A little further down along the river and just a few minutes from the town centre is the lovely large green of Gooseholme - the perfect spot for a game of frisbee. Here you will also find a unique 18-hole Putting Green so you can work up an appetite before tucking into lunch.

Best for Beer Lovers
The village of Staveley is just a few miles away and is easily reached by train bus or car. Head to the Mill Yard to stock up on artisan baked treats in More bakery and a refreshing Hawekshead ale from the Brewery next door before heading to the large village green for an afterooon doze.
