How to Spend Time with the Kids this October

The summer holidays have ended, but that doesn’t mean the fun has to. As we move into October, there’s plenty of fun activities to take part in throughout the Lake District. Whether you’re getting ready for the spooky season, looking to adventure through hidden spots, or catching a show, there’s something for all ages.

Pumpkin Picking, Walby Farm Park (Oct 17 - 31)

Spooky season is once again upon us and Walby Park are celebrating in style. They’re hosting an interactive show full of supernatural shenanigans and wild witches. Plus, join in with the pumpkin picking and you’ll get a free pumpkin for every child you bring, which can be carved on site at designated stations. Meet farm animals, explore the mini-maze, and slide down their new wooden sledge slides.

Ghyll Scrambling, Coniston/Langdale/Wasdale/Eskdale

Fancy a bit of exploration? Try gorge walking, or as we call it, Ghyll Scrambling. Path to Adventure have expert guides, supply mostly everything you’ll need (aside from shoes), suggest the best venue for your group and offer private family tours. They host a variety of tours that range from 2 hours to 6 hours depending on difficulty and terrain. It’s a great way to get up close with nature and even get a little wet before Winter sets in.

There was an Old Lady who Swallowed a Fly, Theatre by the Lake (October 13th)

The People’s Theatre Company are bringing one of the world’s most loved nursery rhymes to life! Suitable for ages 2+ this is truly an event for the entire family. This show is particularly created for adults and children to enjoy, with magic, tales, songs, and colourful animals coming to life. Plus, with it being hosted in Keswick’s Theatre by the Lake, you get the added opportunity to enjoy a beautiful lakeside stroll before the show.

Returning to us in the afternoon? After a long morning of adventure and fun, treat the kids to a Little One’s Afternoon Tea in the Green Room. They’ll feel all grown up with their teapot of fruit cordial, served with finger sandwiches, a sausage roll, ice cream sundae and plenty of sweet goodies to nibble on.

Snuggle up on the night in one of our cosy beds. Our suites come with pull out beds for the little ones, or if you have older children, give them some privacy with our interconnecting rooms. These rooms are subject to availability, so call us direct to book on 01539 734000.
